Buying a boat is only one part of The Next Boat Journey. Once someone makes that investment, protecting it and becoming comfortable using it become important parts of the ownership experience.

That was the focus of our recent Dock Side Live Radio conversation with Joe from The Big Bumper Company.

As boats become larger and more expensive, so does the potential cost of a docking mistake. Traditional fenders provide protection, but they can be cumbersome, difficult to position and take up valuable storage space.

The Big Bumper Company set out to solve that problem by making it easier to protect the boat. Visit Big Bumper https://tinyurl.com/y8uk8nkh

Big Bumpers are inflatable and create a large, soft protection area between a boat and a dock, piling or another vessel. They can be used at a permanent slip, while rafting with other boats, or when stopping at a waterfront restaurant or transient marina.

One of the biggest differences is storage

A Big Bumper can inflate to six feet long and 18 inches in diameter, then be deflated and rolled down to approximately the space occupied by a much smaller traditional fender. The company says that can reduce the required storage space by approximately 90 percent.

But the bigger story isn't simply the bumper.

It's confidence.

Almost every boater knows the stress of approaching an unfamiliar dock with wind, current, expensive boats and people watching.

As Joe explained during our conversation, “The bigger the boat, the bigger the repair bill.”

Products that make docking more forgiving can help remove some of that anxiety and give owners greater confidence to actually use their boats.

And that's an important part of The Next Boat Journey.

Getting someone to purchase a boat is one step.

Helping them protect it, become comfortable using it and enjoy it enough to remain in the boating lifestyle is the much bigger journey.
