Sometimes the best marine stories aren't really about products.

They're about why people choose to spend their lives around the water.

During our recent The Next Boat Journey conversation with Joe from The Big Bumper Company, that connection became clear.

Joe has been boating since he was five years old, when his parents bought a house on a lake.

Boating stayed with him.

Sailboats. Pontoon boats. Ski boats. Water skiing. Sunset cruises.

His three children grew up boating. All three became sailors and water skiers.

And many of Joe's closest friendships came from the boating community.

He summed it up with a simple statement:

“These are my people.”

That's something many lifelong boaters understand.

The boat may have originally brought you to the water, but eventually boating becomes about something much larger.

Friends.

Family.

Experiences.

Sunsets.

Trips.

Stories.

And memories that stay with you long after the boat itself is gone.

Several years ago, Joe discovered The Big Bumper Company. He liked the product, invested in the company and eventually became CEO.

But his reason for joining The Next Boat Journey goes beyond selling bumpers.

He believes in boating and in helping more people enjoy it.

Big Bumper produces educational content including how-to videos, blog posts and newsletters designed to help boaters better understand their equipment and boating experience.

That philosophy fits naturally with The Next Boat Journey.

We're not simply having conversations about someone's next boat.

We're exploring the entire journey.

How people discover boating.

How they choose their first boat.

What they learn during ownership.

Why their needs change.

What makes them choose their next boat.

And perhaps most importantly, what makes them stay in boating and eventually introduce someone else to the lifestyle.

Because ultimately, the future of boating isn't measured only by how many boats we sell.

It's measured by how many people eventually say:

“These are my people.”
