The Great Loop Challenge 2.0 is covering incredible miles, but the real journey is about raising awareness and helping kids battling pediatric cancer.
The 2026 Great Loop Challenge powered by Honda Marine is covering a lot of miles, but the real story is not about how far the boat can travel. It is about the people the team meets along the way and the children they are fighting for.
Dock Side Live Radio recently caught up with the crew after they reached New York City following an overnight run from North Carolina. When asked what had surprised them most, the answer was simple: the hospitality, the donations and the people following their journey. They even spotted two whales while approaching the Hudson.
But one message put the entire challenge into perspective
Red received a text from the mother of Grayson, his young co captain who battled leukemia and now has perfect blood work. She told him that Grayson had watched every one of the crew's videos on his way to school and wanted them to have a great day.
"And that just about ruined me," Red said.
That is what the Great Loop Challenge is really about. The miles, long overnight runs, weather and equipment are all part of the adventure, but they create opportunities to raise awareness and money for children battling pediatric cancer.
The journey has not been easy. The crew encountered a severe thunderstorm in northern North Carolina with winds gusting up to 60 mph. They lost several items from the boat during the storm, but continued north.
From New York, the next major stop is Portland, Maine, where the team plans to service the boat, meet supporters and continue raising money. Their philosophy remains straightforward: kids first, partners and sponsors second, records third.
As Red explained, every mile traveled and every conversation creates another opportunity to bring attention to the mission.
The public can follow the journey, track the boat and donate through the 2026 Great Loop Challenge powered by Honda Marine website, https://nationalpcf.org/the-great-loop-challenge

Because this challenge is about much more than completing the Great Loop. It is about using boating to make a difference for kids who need people in their corner.
